The Éadach Morrigan Serpent print, inspired by 70s rock n roll..slinky and psychedelic.
A product of dreams, memories and coincidences, this print draws on the story of the Morrigan, the shape-shifting Celtic Goddess of War, Fate and Death. Her alter egos include a serpent, and a thunder storm. The eye represents a long running battle she had with Cuchulainn, as he shot at her with a sling shot when she attacked him in the form of a wolf, blinding her.
He broke her ribs when she took the form of a seaserpent and her leg when in the form of a heifer. She took her final revenge, settling on his shoulder as he died in battle, in her most famous form, that of a crow or raven. (There is a bronze statue of this moment in the window of the GPO, Dublin)
Like so many strong characters in Irish mythology, she represents female power and energy and is known as a protector, having the ability to allow a person to draw on their inner strength.
